Access to Information request with fee waiver — the strategy of Canada against the economic pressure of the United States
Hello,
I make this request under section 6 of the Access to Information Act. I am a Canadian resident and I request access to the following records held by the Privy Council Office.
1. All records that set out the strategy of the Government of Canada in response to the economic pressure of the United States, including the tariffs of the United States in force since 22 August 2026, prepared for or by the Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, dated between 1 January 2025 and the date this request is processed.
2. All records that identify the instruments available to Canada to answer the economic pressure of the United States, and that assess the effect of each instrument on the United States and on Canada, in the same period.
3. All records that analyse why the economy of Canada depends on the market of the United States, including the share of exports sold to the United States, the routes of oil and gas exports, and the ownership of Canadian firms, in the same period.
4. All records of the Advisory Committee on Canada-U.S. Economic Relations that set out recommendations to the Government of Canada, in the same period.
5. All records that set out the plan of the Government of Canada for the case that the tariffs of the United States remain in force beyond 31 December 2026, in the same period.
Produce the records in electronic format.
Where a record contains a confidence of the King's Privy Council, the analyses of problems and the background explanations in it are not excluded once the decision to which they relate has been made public. I require their release under paragraph 69(3)(b) of the Act. Every record withheld under section 69 is to be listed with its date and its type.
Fees. I am without income and I am unable to pay the application fee. Waive the fee under subsection 11(6) of the Access to Information Act. The records concern the answer of Canada to the economic pressure of a foreign state, and the public benefit of their release is direct. If the waiver is refused, I require written notice of the refusal, the reason for it, and the method of payment.
I require registration of this request on the date of its receipt. Where the Office holds no record answering any numbered item above, I require a written statement to that effect for that item.
The name and title of an officer or employee of a government institution on a document prepared by that person in the course of employment is not personal information under paragraph 3(j) of the Privacy Act. I require that such names and titles be released and not severed.
A refusal to register this request until a fee is paid, an absence of a file number, or an absence of a decision on the waiver request will be placed before the Information Commissioner of Canada.
